Why Equine-Assisted Therapy?
Experiential therapy with horses is not a horseback riding experience; it is about relating to the horses on the ground. The horse acts as a mirror and a teacher to help us learn more about how we relate to others in terms of boundaries, appropriate discernment and trust, and healthy intimacy. Partnering with horses provides a metaphoric experience to promote emotional growth. This experiential therapy teaches us about ourselves, allows recognition of dysfunctional patterns of behavior, and helps define healthy relationships. Horses are typically non-judgmental and have no expectations or motives. The horse assists in making us aware of our emotional state as the horse responds in reaction to our behavior.
